Smashbox Cosmetics was launched in 1996 by brothers Dean and Davis Factor, great-grandsons of makeup legend Max. It was part of a wider business empire for the Factor brothers, Smashbox Studios, which includes a modelling agency, a photo studio and a clothing line.
The cosmetics arm of the business was sold to Estee Lauder in the summer of 2010.
